Nominee's Bio: Safia Abdallah Raabo is a Public health practitioner and a specialist with extensive experience in public health-based advocacy, research and communication on health-related issues particularly those affecting women and adolescents. Safia Abdallah Raabo, holds a Master’s Degree in Public health from the School of public health (SPH), The University of Ghana-Legon. She had her first degree in Medical laboratory Science from the School of Biomedical and Allied health Sciences’-Legon in 2016. She has worked as a researcher at both government and non-governmental organizations which includes the Nuguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research. The University of Ghana School of public health and skyfox Limited where she was involved in qualitative and quantitative research. Her research interest is in HIV, sexual and reproductive health, maternal health and sanitation and hygiene. Safia, in 2016 founded the Zongo Girls for Education-Ghana (Zonged-Gh), an organization that advocates for adolescent & women’s health and education with a special focus on Zongo communities. The organization has since provided health screening, public health education and medical assistance for Zongo people from Nima, Mamobi, Alabar, Aasawai just to mention a few. Through her leadership the organization every year distributes sanitary packs to girls from selected Schools in Zongo communities on menstrual hygiene day. In 2019, the Zonged Gh, organized the know your status campaignon World AIDS day with support from the Ghana AIDS commission. She is currently spearheading a nationwide campaign on Covid 19 dubbed the Zongo against Covid 19, to educate Zongo and Inner city populace abou the coronavirus disease. She aspires to be a renowned public health physician with key on the health of women and adolescents. She is currently pursuing an MB CHB degree at the University of Ghana Medical School in anticipation of fulfilling her dreams of becoming a Medical Doctor/Public health physician so as to continue catering for the wellbeing of women especially those from Zongo communities. She has provided mentorship and coaching for a number of adolescents from Zongo communities and local organizations aimed at improving the lives of women and girls from slums and inner cities in Ghana. She is also an advocate for girl child education and gender equality. She envisions a Zongo community where every girl child will be educated to the highest level in other to gain a sustainable income and also transform the lives of their families. She wants her story to inspire other Zongo girls to be able to aspire for greatness against all odds and become a force to reckon with in all spheres of life.
